Stocking Tutorial Cont……

Posted December 9th, 2011 in What's New

How’s the stockings coming along?  Ready to continue?

Ok, we need to make a back first, then the lining  for this.  First let’s cut out the back.  Remember the back has to be in the same direction as the front with the RIGHT side of the fabric facing down when you cut out and your stocking is facing RIGHT side up.  Just like I have it laid out here.  Just cut one.

Once you flip that part over this is what you should have.  You can spray baste your stocking back to the binding or pin it for quilting.

Ok, we’re going to quilt the back of the stocking.  The front you sort of quilted as you went along.   But feel free to do some top stitching on it.  I love using this tape for marking my lines.  I also like using the Frixion markers.  I have both on the website.  This tape I have to say is my favorite though.  You’ll also need your ruler.

I start by placing my ruler in whatever spot you like.  I do a diagonal.  You have also square it up in your lines.  I love the diagonal cross hatched look.  So I place the tape right along the ruler edge.

Space it out however far apart you like it.

Follow the tape and quilt.

So this is what you have when you go in one direction.

Trim again.

Mark with your tape again,  then quilt  in the opposite directions and this is what it will look like.   Trim again.

Tada you have a front and a back.

Next you’ll want to add the little hanger on your stocking front.  Cut a little piece of ribbon, rick rack, etc and fold it in half wrong sides together and pin on the stocking.  See picture for placement.

Lining is next. Take your lining fabric RIGHT sides together and cut out two pieces for a front and a back.

Take the two lining pieces and then sew them to the top of the front and back.  Make sure you have the ones just like the photo below.  You will lay them right sides together before sewing along the top edge. I just laid them like this so you can see what they will look like if you have them in the correct place.

Sew along the top edge only after you lay them right sides together. Front stocking to front lining.  Back of stocking to back lining piece.  When you sew all around your stocking make sure not to get your little hanger caught in your sewing.  Only sew it down on the side.

Ok, your ready to lay the the fronts and backs together RIGHT sides facing each other.

Leave an opening in the lining for turning right sides out after sewing.

Sew a 1/4 inch all the way around stopping at your opening spot.

This can be tricky because the stockings I did are small.  Hubby makes this great turning stick and it works great. It’s on the website under WOOD.

You first sew your opening in the lining closed.  Then you will want to push the lining into the stocking. That’s where the stuffer stick comes in handy dandy.

Press the top opening of your stocking and stuff that baby full of little gifts!!!  I hope you enjoyed this.  If so, I’d love to hear from you.  Maybe I’ll do more tutorials if this one was good.  :)  I’d love to see your stockings too.

Tutorial cont…….

Posted December 7th, 2011 in What's New

Ok, are you ready to continue? Did you start your stockings today?  Here goes:

Remember how I said you start in the middle and work your way to the top and the bottom? Well in case you come up short at the top, it’s easy. Just add another piece until it’s all covered.  Even if it’s not the same size strip as the others.

Here’s the extra piece of top. Once I trim it, it will be thinner than the others but it’s ok.

Now let’s work on the bottom part. You will need to turn your pieces so they fit the turn of the sock.

That red dot fabric strip I didn’t need to make quite as long. But I just sew right over it with the next piece.

Now you have the whole stocking covered.  Ready to trim.

Flip the stocking over and let’s trim it. See the extra long piece at the top.  You’ll just trim that too.  Trim all around the stocking right up to the batting.

You should have this.  Your stocking front.

Next I added trim.  I put this trim on.  You can add it anywhere or not at all.

I strung thin red ribbon onto each side of the trim And then put a button in the middle.  Your kit will have all this inside.  The trim I sewed down by hand right in the middle.

Add your button.

I’ll stop here and let you catch up. More tomorrow.

Daisy here again!

Posted December 6th, 2011 in What's New

Hope I’m not wearing out my welcome at your in box.  But you know I have new and I must show you.

It’s here, it’s here!!!  Woodlands from Cinderberry’s Natalie Lymer.  And I’m in love.   This is just three of them.  There are 11 on the website and I have fat quarter bundles too if that’s what you like.

Here’s hubby’s newest.   I love these little wooden boxes.  They come with the fat quarters which are Civil War fabrics from Marcus Brothers.  You can choose red or black.

Pillowcase kits also on the website.  They are all under KITS.

Labels from Moda and Sandy Gervais.  Love these!!!    Under FABRIC on the website.

Ok,I’m going to show the first part of the mini stocking tutorial tonight. You’ll have to make up your own little stocking drawing unless you’ve ordered a kit.  This is what we are making.

You need to get some batting for your stocking base.  Lay your pattern down and trace around. Your batting should be doubled. So you have a front and back.

You can also trace them separately like this.

Cut out the stocking shapes. Not sure why I have three there. lolol  You’ll need two for one stocking.

Next your going to need to cut several different fabrics into strips. I cut mine 2 inches you can do any size you want. The more the merrier. Get it!!  Christmas, merry?? Oh never mind.

Lay the fabrics out the way you want them on your stocking first.

I laid mine over the stocking like this.

Take two of the strips. Again not sure what’s going on with the number THREE. Other than you would want to lay out three pieces to make sure that you reach the top of your stocking once that top piece is sewn on.

Lay piece number one right side up. I start in the middle of the stocking.

Take piece one and two.

Lay piece number two face down on piece number one.  And sew a 1/4 inch.  Oh yes, Gummy Bears helps the sewing go smoother. Trust me.

Press!

Now continue with piece #3.

press, then lay out your #4 piece.  Lay it on top of #3 and sew.  And on and on.

Ok, this should get your going.  Be back with more.  I’ll just post the rest on the website not in an email.  So look on my website/blog for it.  I hope you enjoy doing this. I’d love to see your stockings. And remember I have kits too on the website.

Panic mode!!  That’s what I’m in. PANIC MODE!!   My head is spinning with everything that is going on this month.  I know I’m going to wake up and it will all be over.  I’m trying to enjoy every minute of  it.  Living in Southern Ca all those years where we really did nothing for the holidays, I realized how much I missed out on here in St. Louis.  Hunka and I spent Friday day and night baking.  We had so much fun doing this together. It was a first but he enjoyed it so it may be an annual thing for us.  I have to say he enjoyed my RED mixer which I wasn’t so excited about.  I told him, hands off!!  Or I’m going downstairs for the power tools.  And we all know he doesn’t want me messing with those.  And yes he has an apron on. A Moda Home apron of course.  Is there any other kind?

Lots of new things came in all at once.  So I’ll try and put them on here as long as I can upload photos.

Christmas Trio by The Birhouse.  This design comes already preprinted so all you have to do is stitch.  I love when that happens dont’ you?

This book is back in stock.  I have one left again. Very cute book also from The Birdhouse

My order came in from Bareroots that I placed at Quilt Market.  I love all things Bari.

This one is called Patches & Posy’s Quilt

Wrist Pin Cushions

Two new books came in from Bari.

Quilt A Gift……  and Quilt A Gift for a Little One.  They are both on the website.  They are both filled with the cutest stitchery projects from Bari.

These pictures are from the baby book Quilt A Gift for a Little One.

Lots of you have purchased this book,  and I have several kits on the website for items in that book.  Bari made kits for the candle mat,  pincushions,  and the crazy purse. All are on the website under KITS The crazy purse and the pincushion you can see right there on the cover.  The kit for the pincushion has the little tin that the cushion sits in too.  So check those out. I only have a few of each.

The candle mat kit comes with everything to make both of these.

More cute from The Birdhouse,  Natalie Bird.  Do you not love this little sewing case?  It’s 11×9 which is a good size really.  If anyone would like to make me one please do not hold back!!  I beg of you.  :)

Janelle Wind has these  adorable new patterns.

Sassy Sewing Set

Old Cats & Friends…..lovin this too.

Stockings……..who doesn’t love stockings?  Well this is a little one I made and I’m going to post a tutorial for it.  I’ll get all the pictures on here and up in the next couple days.  Kits are on the website under KITS if you’d like to buy some.  Or you can just follow along using your own fabs.  They are so much fun and quick to make for last minute gifts. You can get the kit for the RED one or the MULTI one. Each kit will make two stockings.

Vignette 5 is going out tomorrow.  It didn’t ship to me when I was told so it ended up being a week late arriving. But it’s ok, it’s here now and headed to your mailbox.  If you don’t receive one you will get yours when my second shipment arrives. It’s on the way. No really, it is!  haaaaa

I’m pretty sure I need to zip it up and send this now.  I’m just hoping I didn’t overload with photos again. You know me and my camera. We are one!!!

Again, thank you so much for your continued support of me and my little business.  Thank you for the sweet emails I receive too, they really do make my day.

I hope everyone had a nice Thanksgiving.  I sure did.  We celebrated with my sister Linda and her family.  My Boo came in town and Wilster was there too. I love being able to spend holiday’s with them now.  Living in California when it is 80 degrees out just didn’t do it for this Midwestern girl.

Hunka and I celebrated our 22nd anniversary the day after Thanksgiving.  Man does time fly or what?   Who would have thought 22 years already?   Here’s a family picture we took at my sisters. It’s not very often that the boys are together with us at the same time. And you know how hard it is to get them to take a picture???   That is Boo (Brian) on the left and Wilster (Bill) on the right.

We had a Pumpkin pie that our realtor bought us, and my sister has a cat named Pumpkin.   Isn’t that cat pretty? And the pie was from a local bakery and delish.  One we ate and the other well, we didn’t.

Everyone had their After Thanksgiving sale,  the Black Friday sale,  the Cyber Monday sale, well guess what? We’re having a Cyber TUESDAY sale her.  That’s right, you know me, gotta be different.  Hopefully you didn’t spend all of your cash at those other sales.  If so I don’t blame you.  Soooo here’s the code and it starts at midnight tonight  and goes until Friday.  The code is:   CYBERTUES    and it is for 20% off all regular priced merchandise. No clearance, no block of the months and no Vignette magazines. And only items in stock.   Just enter the code at check out.

I managed to finish quilting these two quilts/kits and bind them.  So pretty.

Love the PKM fabric, don’t you?  I wish the picture didn’t turn out so bright.  It’s a really pretty quilt.  Perfect for my kitchen table this Spring/Summer.

My Marcus Brothers order came in a few days ago.  I love the Civil War fabrics.  But then I love all fabrics.  I’m an addict I know.  There I said it!!!  Now to find help.  :)  Here are some of the nine that I ordered.  I have more coming.  I do love the Civil War fabrics, do you?

While we are talking about Civil War fabrics.  Hunk made some awesome little wooden boxes and I’ve filled them with Civil War fabrics.  They will be listed under Precuts soon.  He’s finishing up the boxes.  Trust me they are cute.

Another cute pattern by Lynette Anderson:  Garden Gnome Needlecase.  I have the Gnome button on the website too. He’s really cute.

Buggy Barns newest book is back in stock.  My friends are going to be making this one I think.  It’s  such a happy quilt.

A great book.

That’s all I got for now. I’m still waiting on my Vignette order. I’m hoping it comes today or tomorrow.  I’ll get them out as soon as they arrive.

Thanks again for all of your business.  I do appreciate it.

Sharon

Is everyone ready? Have ya bought that big old bird yet?  I’m excited about the sweet potato casserole myself.  My mouth is watering so I need to stop talking food.  That’s all I’ve been doing it seems is stuffing food in my mouth.  And we’ve only just begun right?  I made this awesome Monkey bread the other night.  OHMYWORD!!!!  I added pecans and these orange flavored cranberries to it.  Of course I used REAL butter too.  If your going to do it, do it all the way right?  I got the recipe on the Pillsbury website.  Talk about easy and quick.  Give it a try.

Along with eating all the time goes sewing .  Well in my world it does.  That’s what I’ve been doing too.  Eating and sewing.    Busy making Christmas gifts, quilting unfinished quilts,  and  lots of binding to do as well.  Here are some new kits I’ve added to the website.  This first one is  called Oh X-mas Tree and is under KITS.

Jubilee is the one I made using Pam’s new fabric line Pam Kitty Morning.  I even got it quilted yesterday.  Still working on the binding but you get the idea.  And the kit is ready for you to get busy.  I love this quilt. It’s going to be cute on my kitchen table.  Or I can see a little baby lying on it.  :)

Love this backing. No it’s not from Pam’s line. I just thought it matched it so well.  And it makes me smile.

Charming Cherries is the name of this tablerunner kit.  I finally got the buttonholing finished, now need to do the quilting.    Thank goodness for my design board Hunka made me. Man do I ever use that thing.  It was the first thing he did when we moved into this house.  And I love it!!  All the pictures I take with the white background are on the wall.  It’s just the easiest way to snap a pic for me.

This is the 3rd one of these I’ve quilted.  And finally one is for ME!!!  Just in time to use it for Christmas huh?  It’s so happy and cute.  And yes there are still kits left if you want to whip one up.  I ran out but made a couple more kits today.  Wrapped Up In You is the name.

Pillowcases…………who doesn’t love fresh new pillowcases.  I made kits of some that I’ve made for Christmas presents.  I’ll be adding more soon that aren’t holiday themed.  This includes the fabric and pattern thanks for my good friend Kris!  Thanks Kris.  There are four different kits right now on the website.  I love making these.  I hope everyone enjoys them as a gift.  I know I would.  Matter of fact, I’m pretty sure the HOPE set is for me.

There is just a couple spots left for the Little House BOM.  Two matter of fact then it’s closed.  If you’ve been thinking of joining hop on over and sign up.  Here’s block #1 again.

Hunka is busy making these cute wooden boxes.  I can’t wait to show them to you filled with fabric fat quarters and fat eights.    Be back soon with those.  Thanks for stopping by again and Hunka, Madeline and I wish all of you a very Happy Thanksgiving!!!!

Sharon

Well, is everyone ready for turkey day??  Luckily this year I’m going to my baby sisters and she’s cooking the big bird. I’m bringing the sweet potato casserole  and macaroni/cheese from Paula Deen’s cookbook. I’ve made that before and my nephew loved it.  And he’s requested the two dishes I’m bringing.  I love the holiday’s now that I’m here to enjoy them with my boys and my sister and her family. The day before Thanksgiving we’ve been invited to Hunka’s cousin Julie’s house for dinner. She lives not far from us now and that makes us happy too.   And good news!!!  My Boo has a girlfriend. Hillarie seems so so nice and I can’t wait to meet her. She can’t come for Thanksgiving but he’s bringing her to meet us between Thanksgiving and Christmas. Her family is in Kentucky and that’s where she will spend the two holidays.  I am so happy and excited for both of them. And you know what I’m secretly hoping……….I won’t say anymore.  haaaaaa     Whatever your doing this year I hope you enjoy your time with family and friends.  It really doesn’t matter who you are spending it with as long as you enjoy yourself.

I’ve been busy as usual sewing.  I do embroidery everyday. Well every night.  I never tire of doing embroidery.  Matter of fact, some nights my hands hurt so bad from arthritis I guess.  But it’s worth it because I love doing it.  I know some of you gave me suggestions for relieving the pain and I need to give them a try.  Because we all know I’m not giving up my stitching.  Funny thing, my boys always tell me do not leave all of that stuff for mr.  I have hangers full of stitchery projects I’ve completed and then done nothing with.  I stitch them up and then hang them up and do nothing more with it.  I just enjoy making them.  Hopefully my daughter in laws someday will enjoy my work.

Here’s what I finished lately. Maybe you’ve seen this.  I want to finish it so I can hang it for Christmas but I don’t want to do it like the pattern is finished.  I’m thinking of putting little pinwheels or stars all around it. What do ya think??   Maybe first do a thin black or red border then the pinwheels, or stars.  Either one using mini stars or pinwheels.   Then I might make it into a pillow instead of a wallhanging.

This is the new BOM I’m doing from Cinderberry Stitches.  I’m almost done with block #3.  Don’t you love that poodle in block #1.

At Quilt Market I bought the patterns for the mini house quilts and have been busy making them.  They are on the website if you’d like to sign up. I’ll leave the sign up for a couple more days then I’m closing it so I can get busy making all the kits. If you’d like to do them get on over there and sign up.  They are the cutest little mini quilts. Mine is going to hang outside on my porch. I have a quilt hanger that Hunka made and hung for me to hang mini’s on.  And these are all perfect for that spot.  February is the first one we’ll do and your kit will go out in January.  You’ll get everything you need to complete the mini quilt each month.

This is March’s little house.  I love, love, love the sheep. I made them using batting.  They are furry.  haaaaa   And the colors are better in person. That photo is not the best.  Don’t you love the rick rack on the barn door?

Maybe this photo looks a bit better.  ???   I still have to do all the buttonholing and finish the rest of the block.  But it’s going to be so cute too.

The Pam Kitty Morning fabric and bundles have been flying out the door.  That fabric is so darn happy. I love it. I may have to make a new kitchen curtain using it.  And don’t forget it’s 8.75 a yard on the website.

The panel is to die for.  The panel is 7.75 for one.

I know what I’m going to do with my panel I just need to sit down and do it. These kittens are so cute. I still have some panels left but not a whole lot of them. These are just  four of the kittens.

This is the quilt I did make using my PKM fabric.  I love it. Now I need to quilt it.  I’ll have kits if you want to make one too.

This is the latest Monthly Mini I sent out.  Nancy, here is your photo!!!  It’s a little cute quilt just to set underneath a little Christmas tree or on a kitchen counter.

I’ve put a lot of things on clearance. Some from the gift category, lots of clearance fabric is marked down to 3.00 a yard.  So check it out.

Also don’t forget I have gift certificates if you want to buy one for a gift. I’ll even wrap it for you at no charge.  Any amount, just email me.

The invoices for the Vignette 5 have been sent out. If you haven’t received one and want to get the magazine let me know. If I sent the invoice and you didn’t pay I’ll cross your name off the list so you’ll need to reorder your magazine.  I’m sending in my order this coming week for the next issue and after that your order will be a preorder for my second order I send out.  If I had your credit card I’ve already taken care of your invoice for you.

If you need issue 1,2,3 or 4 I still have a few left but won’t be ordering anymore of them.  I’ll only be ordering the newest one from now on.

One last thing,  if you place an order for 50.00 or more  between 11/18 and 11/25th I’ll send you a discount code to use the first week in December.  It will be a good discount too. I’m just sayin.  :)  The coupon will be inside your order when I ship it.

That’s it for now.  I’m sure I forgot something but I’ll be back soon.  Thanks for all your business, I appreciate it so much.

Sharon

How’s it going out there? It’s been cool and rainy here this week.  Perfect weather for sewing, unfortunately I’ve done none.  Only hand stitching.  I’ve been filling lots of orders and checking in lots of new things.  That’s fun too I gotta admit.  I love when the man in brown pulls up out front.  Today he brought something real good!!!  My Pamkittymorning fabric from Lakehouse. Yippeeeeee   I can not wait to sew with it. I know what I’m making too, using that panel.  It’s the cutest thing you’ve ever seen.  Giant Pam kitty’s on it.

This is just one of the cute kittens on the panel.  The fabric is already up on the website and several of you have already placed your orders. I’ll get that out tomorrow to you.  Fat Quarter bundles and fat 1/8th bundles are also available. And those of you that ordered them they will go out tomorrow too.   No the whole line is on the website  because I didn’t order it all. But I think I ordered a good selection.

New patterns  I ordered at the Utah market you can use with the new PKM fabric.

Emma’s English Posies

Random Hearts Quilt

Veranda Tote. I know I have a photo that Pam made with red polka dot fabric somewhere. Ill try and find that.  It was so cute.

Love Jan Patek

Buggy Barns new  book arrived yesterday. Crazy for Applique.   The quilt inside is adorable.  More kittens too.

Liberty Homestead has  little booklets out now with some cute mini quilts. I have 6 of them on the website.  They are all little spiral bound booklets.  Listed under BOOKS or Just Added. I need to get a photo of all of them but you can see them on the website.

The Birdhouse by Natalie Bird patterns on  the website too.  Some are  restocked and some I’ve not carried before.  They are all under Australian patterns on the website.

Pretty In Patchwork doll quilts is new……

Simple Home by Sweetwater’s is a good book too. Just got that in also.

Faithful & Devoted by Sarah Maxwell & Dolores Smith

This little date book by Quiltmania is something you might like. It’s small and can tuck inside your purse.  Lots of quilty photos inside. It would also make a great gift for someone quilty.

Have you ever used Beeswax to make your thread slide through the needle easy?   It really works. And look how cute these are.

I think this should give you enough to keep you busy until I come back.  Tomorrow I’ll be creating with my new Pam Kitty Fabric.  Now my head is spinning. Which project to do first.  I know I really should be doing floors but this sounds like so much more fun.

Thanks again for all of your business, and your honesty.  I am so lucky that you guys are so honest with me.  I unfortunately am always messing up and sending the wrong stuff to the wrong person.  Can I blame it on menopause? You know I blame it all on that.  But really, thank you for being so honest about it.  I do appreciate that.

Are you having fun seeing all the new things I brought back from market?  I can’t wait for the fabric to come in. I just got word yesterday that my Pam Kitty Morning from Lakehouse  fabric has shipped and should be here Wednesday. I’ve uploaded it all onto the website so you can order now. I also added fat quarter bundles and fat eighth bundles.  I didn’t get the whole line so the bundles are of the prints I ordered.  The fabric is 8.75 a yard.  Remember I will cute 1/2 yards just send me an email.  These three are just a few of them.  They are so happy.  Pam and Holly did a great job on these fabrics.  I love them.

More new patterns that I brought back are: Rick Rack Spools, Cottage Fair,  Catherine’s 1800 Doll Quilt and there are more from this designer on the site too.  I fell in love with all of them and they will go great with the new civil war fabric from Marcus Brother that I ordered.

Primitive Gatherings  new wool stocking pattern is to die for.  And I brought home some of her needles too for using on the wool.  And don’t forget her new fabric line.  I ordered a ton of bolts and those won’t be here until next year.  I think it was April.  Bundles should come in before that and I did order a few. Just a few so if your interested please let me know. The line has over 50 prints so it’s a big bundle.

Jan Patek has some nice patterns.  Had to get a few of those.   Sunflower Daze and Peter Cottontail are a couple of them.

This was it at the show in Jan’s booth. I want to make this. Might even kit it.

Lynette Anderson Designs,  Winter House Bag, Anvil Cottage

I’ll be sending out invoices and billing credit cards for the next issue of Vignette issue #5 soon. I have to place my order and the magazine is due out the first week in December.  So please check your inbox for the paypal invoice or look for your statement on the credit card and just know it’s for the next issue.  If your not on auto ship you can still get on it. Just send me an email and I’ll call for your credit card number.  I still have a couple of issues 1,2 and 3 left.  of course I have 4 too but 1,2 and 3 I’ll be done with after they are gone.  I’ll still carry issue 4 and any after that.

Monthly mini’s will be going out next week,  this one will be a little Christmas mini.  Real fast to make and quilt up.  After that I’ll be using some of the new patterns from market to make mini’s out of.  So you can still sign up for the monthly mini too. It’s on the website under kits.  They are 19.99 each month and have everything inside to complete the mini. These are a few of them that we’ve done so far.

Don’t forget to sign up for the new BOM’s if your interested. I’ll leave the sign up a bit longer before I close it.  Then I have to get busy kitting.  Also the Lynette Button BOM you’ll need to sign up for if your interested in her new one.  I’m not sure exactly when she’ll be taking our sign ups but I don’t want anyone to miss out.

I think that’s enough for now. I’ll be back soon with more.  This weekend i”ll be busy sewing which I’m looking forward to. It’s been awhile.  Although I forgot to drop my machine off to be serviced while I was away. She’s really sick.  I have to turn her on for about 20 min. before I’m ready. She takes that long to stop shaking.  haaaaaaaaaa   Seriously she does.  It’s awful.  Poor girl.  She’s been overworked.
