Sorry it took me awhile to get back with this. I really meant to get it up right away. Here we go!!!
First we are going to cut the size you want for your zipper bag. The kit has fabric to make yours 8×6 and that’s before it’s all done.
You will first pick out your fabric for the front, back and lining. Cut pieces for your front, back and two pieces for the lining all pieces need to be 8×6. You will also need two pieces or scraps of quilt batting for quilting. Cut those 8×6 also.
Let’s get out the basting spray. I love this stuff. I always keep two cans on hand. Don’t want to run out now do we? :) Refer back to the post for the Tote bag to see how I spray baste. But it’s pretty easy.
First we are going to quilt the front and back. Again I use the 1/4″ tape or a marking pen to mark my quilting lines just like I did in the tote I showed. I love to mark on the diagonal but you can do it anyway you like.
Sew next to your taped lines. Then remove the tape. I reuse it over a couple times for the same bag. Then I toss it. Yes I’m being frugal with my tape. haaaaa
And here we have one piece all quilted. Doesn’t he cross hatching look nice?? I agree, yes it does.
Now get your rick rack. and cut it 8 inches long. I only put it on the front of the little zipper bag. Place it anywhere you’d like on the front. I did mine about 1 1/2″ down from the top. Remember when you sew your zipper on that will bring the top of the bag up a bit. So make sure you put your rick rack down far enough. I didn’t want mine to end up right at the top next to my zipper.
Orange or black looks good. Doesn’t matter really. I did orange on this one. Sew the rick rack in place.
HERE GOES! The dreaded zipper. I urge you to read the next steps. All of them before you start your zipper. THEN do a zipper on something you don’t care about. Give it a practice run. It took me so many tries to get this right but now I can do them in my sleep. They really aren’t hard. Sometimes just confusing until you think about it, and rethink it. haaaaaa Are you ready??? I’m going to give you the first couple steps today. Take your little bag and lining. Lay the FRONT face up. Just like you see in my picture. We are not going to be using the lining pieces just yet. Now…..take your zipper……..I used a 9 inch one on this. I know it hangs off both sides but that’s ok. Don’t worry. As long as it is long enough it’s ok. You are going to take your zipper and turn if face DOWN on your FRONT. Do you see how the zipper is upside down??? Lay that top edge along the top edge of your bag FRONT. Can you see how I did it?
Ok so here we go. Use your zipper foot and sew the one side down. Can you see how it’s still upside down? You will need to unzip the zipper a bit, then when you get to the zipper pull you can zip it back up.I just do htis to get the bulky head out of the way so I can get by it.
Now we’re going to sew the other side of our bag. The back to the zipper. First you will lay the bag TOP face down on the back. Remember you already sewed the zipper to the top. It should be on TOP of the back. Lay the unsewn side of the zipper along the edge of the BACK. Got it???? The top edge. I just folded the top under so you could see that the bottom piece is under there. You don’t have to fold yours.
Now your going to sew again. Once you are done sewing that side. Flip it over.
This is what you should have so far.
Ok we’re going to stop here. I’ll let you catch up. Any questions please let me know and I will address them when I come back for the the rest of the tutorial.
Thanks for this tutorial. I’ve sewn zippers in clothing but never in a bag.

Your welcome. I’m going to do the rest of it right now.
